Pizza Party!

After spending a week away from home, and eating out for all three meals and indulging in treats, we were ready for a home cooked meal.  We decided to make homemade pizza, just like we had when we were kids.

Here are our ingredients:

Pillsbury Pizza Crust, Turkey Pepperoni, Reduced Fat Mozzarella, Mushrooms, Turkey Sausage and

Contadina Pizza Sauce (not pictured)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.  Prebake crust for 5 minutes.

Take two turkey sausage and squeeze into a frying pan, like this:

Fry it up nice and brown.

Take the crust out of the oven, and spread with 1/4 cup of pizza sauce.

Sprinkle on the sausage.

Layer on some cheese.

Add some pepperoni, and mushrooms, then MORE cheese.

Bake for 8 minutes for a perfectly crisp crust.

Here is what you will get:

And most importantly this,

One Happy Husband!

Best part, it cost just about $10 with the Texas Toast.  Made more than enough for us, and was so delicious!

I finally got a Kitchen Aid!

It’s a Kitchen Aid Salad Spinner!

And, it is AMAZING!

We bought some fresh lettuce from our farmer’s market, chopped it up, and threw it in the Salad Spinner, and ended up with an amazing salad.  Amazing.  As in BEST. SALAD. EVER.

We used to be those people who bought salad mixes in a bag full of chemicals and preservative-y taste.  And at $4-$5 a pop, it is pricy to put on the table!

Our salad tonight:

99 cent head of romaine from farmer’s marker

50 cent green pepper

$1.49 cherry tomatoes

Inexpensive, healthy, fresh and totally delish!

And the best part of our salad spinner?  It has dividers so you can spin multiple ingredients at once without mixing them up or bruising them!  I’m super pumped about our new toy!

PS- I definitely think the Salad Spinner excites me more than a stand mixer….(not that I don’t still want one… 🙂 )

We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby!

Once upon a time there was a kitchen.  And it looked like this:

The VERY beginning

It had nasty blue linoleum floors that hadn’t been cleaned in forever.  It had a brass light fixture.  And ratty curtains, and mustard colored trim.  It was DISGUSTING.

As we started to work on the house so we could live here, we put down new floors, painted the walls a light green and put in a new light fixture.

It then looked like this:

The Inbetween- livable and clean, but not done

Finally, after taking a hiatus from the kitchen improvements. (Sometimes, you just need a break!)  We purchased new appliances.  Then a few months later we finally repainted the walls and trim, installed new window treatments, and bought a new table!

It now looks like this!

(NOTE: the walls are really a sagey/piney green, nighttime and my cruddy camera make the green look funky)

The wall color is Garden Valley from Menard’s.  The shade is a cordless cellular blind (also from Menard’s).  These are the best blinds EVER!  And the valance was found at Wal-Mart.

Our new table looks like this:

Our STEAL of a table from JC Penney outlet!

The best part of this table, it expands out with a leaf hidden underneath it.  We love it!  Since we are both crazy tall, it is great to have it a counter height.  We saved over $1000 off of the retail price by shopping the outlet!  Such a deal!

Our new appliances:

We love our new appliances.  They serve us very well.  I just need to find the perfect shelf for above the stove for some cute canisters I have and my cookbooks from my grandmothers.

I am excited to put a few last touches on the decor.  We love the kitchen, and as the heart of the home, it feels SOOO good to have it crossed off the list!!!

Note to readers: If buying a house that needs to be ‘fixed up’.  Good luck.  Just kidding…  just remember to hang in there and keep on keepin’ on.  It will come together, eventually.  We’ve only been here 16 months and FINALLY have a done kitchen 🙂

Want to Know What Makes Me Swoon?

Alright, bloggy friends- sorry for the lack of updates lately.  Life has gotten in the way, and for that I apologize.  I won’t bore you with the details, but am jumping back into the blog0sphere.

Today, my husband and I perused good old Crate and Barrel.

And I saw this:

I saw it and I was in love.

I sat on it and… ::SWOON::

I have never bought a piece of furniture like this.  But, I love it.

AND, it has a matching ottoman…

IF there were funds for this piece, it would lead to a whole living room redo.

So for now, I will dream of this amazing chair.

::Swoon, Swoon, Swoon::
